Riding Sweep

I just returned from a four-day getaway bike trip with 4 club buddies to Bethany Beach, Delaware. We rode from our hotel there and, one day, from Trap Pond State Park in the lower middle of the state. That route went thru Laurel and briefly into Maryland. It utilized the long-established (1700s) Woodland Ferry across the Nanticoke River and was the most scenic, rural ride of our trip. See link.

I found myself doing what I often do these days, riding sweep. I like bringing up the rear because I am safety-conscious:
I ride with a helmet mirror which my peripheral vision helps me check frequently;
I have a bright LED rear blinky (at times a front one, too);
and I have a trained loud voice which I use to yell "Car back!"  If I have to yell it more than once, for guys with bad hearing or whatever reason, I don't hesitate to do so.

There are ride captains. I think of myself as a ride rear admiral.
Let's all complete our rides safely, and live to ride another day.
